Photography 101: A 5-Week Beginner Course
Instructor: Annelise Page
Dates: May 24 through June 21, 2026
Meets: Sundays, Noon to 2pm
Location: Calliope Creative, 9 S 1st Ave, Downtown Walla Walla
Investment: $399
Only 8 spots. Register by May 18.
You have a great camera. It is time to actually use it.
You have been shooting on auto. You have missed shots because you did not know what to change. You have looked at your photos afterward and felt that quiet disappointment between what you saw and what the camera gave you.
That gap is not a talent problem. It is a knowledge problem. And it is completely fixable in five Sundays.
Photography 101 is a small, hands-on course built for the person who is done guessing and ready to create with intention. We keep the group at 8 participants on purpose because you deserve actual attention, real feedback, and a learning environment where no question is too basic and no one is left behind.
This course is for you if you are:
A parent who wants photographs of your kids that actually look the way the moment felt. A traveler who comes home with hundreds of photos and loves almost none of them. A business owner who knows better images would change everything. A creative who has been putting this off for years and is finally ready. Or honestly just someone who bought a camera and wants to know what all those buttons actually do.
All skill levels welcome. All camera brands welcome. Complete beginners welcome and genuinely encouraged.
What we cover over 5 weeks:
Week 1: How your camera sees light and why auto mode is holding you back.
Week 2: Composition and light, the two things that matter most.
Week 3: Light and landscapes, learning to read any environment.
Week 4: HDR and the basics of editing, how to take your images from good to finished.
Week 5: People, food, and still life, putting everything you have learned into practice on the subjects that matter most to you.
Every single class ends with hands-on shooting time, either in the studio or out on a photo walk through downtown Walla Walla, because reading about photography and actually doing it are two completely different things.
By the time we finish you will be able to:
Shoot confidently in full manual mode. Understand aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and metering without having to look anything up. Compose images with intention instead of hope. Read light in any situation. Pose the people in your life so they actually look like themselves. And walk away from a shoot feeling proud of what you made instead of disappointed in what you got.
8 spots. 5 Sundays. Register by May 18.
Ths class fills up and the small group size is not going to change. If you have been on the fence, this is the sign.
